Painting is like solving a puzzle to me, putting the pieces together in a cohesive whole. It’s constantly changing and evolving to give me a new perspective every time I create a painting. I derive a feeling of exhilaration and strength in my resolve to solve each puzzle. I, absolutely love the process of painting, always discovering.
Flowers, plants and the land have always played a major roll in my life with gardening, hiking and camping. The outdoors gives me a calm, euphoric feeling of being in the moment. Through painting I can relive those moments.
I’m exploring ways and attempting to use my brushstrokes in texture, direction and energy along with subtle value and color shifts to lead the viewer on a journey through my world. I want people to feel an emotional connection, to share the energy and excitement that I experience as I paint.
I was born and raised outside of Portland, OR and raised my family there. During this time, I started my journey of self directed education in art at the local community college. After moving to Arizona in 1993, I started taking workshops at the Scottsdale Artist’s School, then began to hike and paint in the desert that surrounded my home. I continue to educate myself with workshops as I pursue my journey in painting.
I have also discovered that I love teaching, which I have found fits in well with my passion for painting and the love of discovery. I hope I have answered any questions you may have about me.
