Painting the 5 C's of Arizona by BECKY JOY

I am starting a new adventure in painting that will culminate with the 100 year anniversary of the statehood of Arizona. As a transplant to Arizona and a student of history, I have been discovering Arizona through my painting. I plan on delving into that more with my project which we be creating paintings about the five C's.

Now you ask, what are the five C's and what is their importance. Arizona's economic base when it became a state was based on the five C's, copper, cotton, cattle, citrus and climate. Each of these industries played an important part in the growth of Arizona starting around the turn of the century and continues to have an influence in the state today. I will be traveling around the state to document each of these industries with my painting in what I plan to be a body of work of about 50 pieces. My project will be completed around the time that Arizona will celebrate its 100 year statehood on Feb. 14, 2011.
