8″ x 10″ oil on linen
Painted on location at the Whiskeytown National Recreation Area in the Shasta area of California.
Cleaning up in the studio the last two days, I came across some plein air paintings that I didn’t have time to post when I painted them. This is one of them with a bit of touch up on it this morning.
Hai-Ou Hou and I stayed there for a couple of weeks. It was very warm, hot actually, in August. I should have known better, but I did know that it would be better than Phoenix. And, it was. Anyway, this is an early morning painting to beat the heat.
It has some large, bold brushstrokes for the trees. The bright orange-yellow light on the trees contrasted with the light violet stroke for the water at the bottom of the canyon. It was important to have the water show up, but be less important that the bright trees on the hillside.
More paintings to come as I get back in the studio and for the clean up. Each painting is sold with a frame, ready to hang when received. Below are choices in frames.
