Day 6 - "The 12 Days of Christmas Giveaway"

Day 6 - "The 12 Days of Christmas Giveaway"

Today is a biggie! This will be 1/2 way into the 12 days. I think everyone was shopping yesterday. Not quite as big of a turnout. Today will be interesting.

You all have some great goals for next year. The table was turned on me. Someone asked me what my goal was. So, I'll share that with you. I've had a few years of a lot of family things happening which has derailed me at times, but most of it is behind me. My daughter and her family are doing very well and she's settled into her job. For those of you that don't have any background to this. She had been going to school and was in a very bad marriage. She had a year of school left when she got a divorce and was struggling to make ends meet with a $10. an hour job, full time school, 3 kids and no child support coming in. At first I just spent a lot of nights at her house with the kids and let her study and work. Eventually, we moved in together, because she had nothing and had to start over. We get along really well and eventually I sold my house to get a bigger one and we all moved into it.

I'm trying to get the short story out here. Anyway, her ex took me to court on a bogus claim which went through the courts for 18 months and cost me thousands. He wouldn't take any settlement to stop it. He wanted everything I had. Well, it didn't work. I stood up and won.  I'm one of those in the sandwich generation. This year much time has been spent helping my parents and getting them into assisted living.

So now, life has almost been settled. At least for now, lol. At any rate, with anyone that has a lot of things to deal with, you start taking stock of what is important. This last year I pulled out of a lot of things and haven't been quite so busy. I started thinking more about what I want.

Now, it comes to my goals for this next year.

  1. I'll keep painting, but I want to paint what I want and experiment with some new things.
  2. I'm working on more online workshop. I love teaching and this gives me more flexibility.
  3. I'm planning to do more traveling. I just got a new vehicle (yesterday) which is a better and roomier vehicle for travel and painting. I've always wanted to take off and see more of the United States. So, I may just do that with more driving and painting trips at a more leisurely pace.

OK, now about YOU guys. I've got a great gift for someone today. I'm giving away a $200 gift certificate toward a canvas print. You get your choice. I know you all will be busy tomorrow with the last weekend before Christmas, so I'm not going to ask much of you. I think it may take too much time to go looking and telling me which one you want. If you want to see the prints to choose from, click HERE to view. Since I have to order the print, you won't get it until after Christmas.

Let's keep the task simple. I like having the dialog on Facebook, the website and emails. It's been fun. So, this time, I'll turn the table and let you ask me something. Put the question to me on Facebook, here on the blog or in an email at

And.....I have another winner of the Calendar. And, she wants the skies. The winner is......Ruth Anne Sturgill. Send me a message with your address Ruth Anne.

Talk to you all tomorrow. Have a good day.

Sunset Clouds Between the Storms Oil Painting

Sunset Clouds Between the Storms Oil Painting

This week's auction

OK, so I thought more about the title this time, at least its not Sunset #2. But, no promises for next week.

If you live in Phoenix or have been following the weather, you will probably know that we've had a lot of rain, 4 straight days. That certainly isn't the norm for the desert.

As I was painting this painting, I was looking out the back patio door watching the light dancing across the clouds between the storms. The clouds were ominous looking in some directions, but obviously a little less so in the west. At least thin enough clouds to let some light through at sunset.

Obviously, I didn't paint exactly what I saw. The clouds move too fast for me. What I was looking for was the essence of what I saw, the feeling of the light on the clouds. The feeling, the essence, is always what I'm after. It doesn't interest me so much to paint a replica of what I see.

The painting, "Sunset Clouds Between the Storms", is the painting from my series of cloud and sky paintings that I'm posting on my auction for this week. So, check out the auction, make a bid and steal a painting at a fantastic price. We both win on the auctions. I've sold a painting and you have the opportunity to own one of my paintings sometimes at a quarter of the retail price.

"Sunset Clouds Between the Storms" 9" x 12" oil (retail price $800 without the frame).Sold
