Highslide JS Globe, A Mining Town
The large black smokestack is the smelter for the copper located in Globe. With the process of smelting copper, concentrate is delivered to Globe from other mines around Arizona. Through smelting and an electro-refining process, 300 pound sheets of copper which are 99.999% pure copper and ready for fabrication come from this location. Globe started as a silver mining town in the 1870′s by the 1880′s the silver played out and copper was recognized as the future of the area.
