The first day begins with a demonstration and lecture showing the procedures and simplicity of creating a painting. The entire painting process is covered, from the application of the paint, to achieving clean color, good value relationships and balanced compositions. Attention will be focused on learning to see form rather than detail, and masses as opposed to lines. Focus will also be on how to accurately simplify the colors and values of the main shapes.Techniques designed to complete Alla Prima paintings en plein air.
I work individually with each student at their easel and guide them at their own level and in their own style. Students may work in oils, pastels or acrylics. There will be lots of painting time and individual attention. Throughout the workshop I will do painting demonstrations. At the end of the workshop I will have a critique session, assessing each student and the direction and problems that each individual needs to focus on when they leave the workshop.
This workshop will be conducted en plein air, on location, and is for anyone interested in learning to develop creative, painterly paintings with clean, rich color and dynamic compositions. What is important to me, as a teacher, is to share with my students what I have learned.
And yes, you will learn how to paint a sunset!
